Soil maps are a critical layer in almost every land map. In agriculture, soil map layers are added to plant maps to understand the soil types and what will grow best in certain areas. In engineering, soil maps are used to understand stability and erosion-related issues. Soil maps and water maps may be combined for environmental engineering projects. As with all GIS mapping, soil maps can be the sole purpose of the project or just one layer among many that combine to create a complete GIS map.
