GIS mapping is a technology driven process that takes geographically-referenced data, from multiple sources, and combines them together to create a visually appealing map with multiple layers of information. Land maps and soil maps generally use aerial photography for the base mapping layer. Business maps utilize street maps for the base layer in order to connect physical business and consumer locations to a specific area.
